Dense polycrystalline Ti_3SiC_2 of high purity was successfully fabricated from Ti/Si/2TiC powders at 1415℃, 100MPa for 2h by reactive HIPing. A flexural strength of 537±16MPa and a Vickers hardness of 4.0±0.2GPa was obtained. The partial pressure of Si is important to maintain the stability of Ti_3SiC_2 at high temperatures. Ti_3SiC_2 tended to decompose in N_2,O_2 or C atmosphere at temperatures above 1350℃. The isothermal oxidation kinetics of Ti_3SiC_2 became parabolic in the temperature range of 1150-1250℃ with an activation energy of 295±20kJ/mol. At temperatures above 1300℃, the oxidation kinetics became linear.
