Starting from bis(trialkoxysilyl)alkanes, gels with hydrophobic mesopores corresponding to the length of alkyl bridge can be prepared. In this research, bis(trimethoxysily)hexane was adopted as starting materials. The phase separation and sol-gel transition behavior in the bulk form has been examined. In this system, co-continuous structure was obtained in the composition region containing relatively high amount of water. However, due to the low degrees of condensation, mesopores collapsed on drying under strong capillary tension.
