UV-vis absorption spectra of the planer titanium oxides prepared by the sol-gel process with the ammonium acetate catalyst show the characteristic absorption band around 450 nm. The planer titanium oxides were controlled in size by the addition of acetic acid for the polycondensation of titanium species at appropriate sol-gel reaction times. The planer titanium oxides larger than 1μm wide show characteristic absorption band while those smaller than 1μm wide show no characteristic one.
