Residual bending moment in tensile specimens greatly affects time-to-failure in high temperature tensile creep tests of advanced silicon nitride. Advanced design of fixtures and specimens is therefore required to improve the accuracy. Self-alignment abilities in several types of specimens were evaluated in terms of the absolute values of residual bending moment. It was found that bending moment in thickness direction is greatly improved by rounding the side surfaces of specimens while the improvement in the width direction was very slight.
