CO_2 gas, one of the green house gases, is a residual product from burning and combustion of fossil fuels such as oil and coal. We described additional combustion reaction between CO_2 gas and elememtal metals, e.g., Ti, Al and Zr. Products from the combustion are technologically important materials, being a mixture of carbide and oxide, e.g., TiC-TiO_2,Al_4C_3-Al_2O_3,ZrC-ZrO_2. The combustion maximum temperatures were 2020℃ for Ti, 1520℃ for Al and 1770℃ for Zr under 1.0MPa of CO_2 gas pressure. The combustion velocities measured by videotaping the reaction sequence were 10mm/sec for Ti, 0.5mm/sec for Al and 0.8mm/sec for Zr. Both of the reaction temperatue and the velocity increased with CO_2 gas pressure.
