Repulsive Casimir Force in Liquid

We have observed the Casimir normal and lateral forces between gold and silica (or gold) separated by bromobenzene (liquid). The Casimir forces between gold and silica separated by the liquid exhibit a repulsive behavior, although those between gold and gold separated by the liquid exhibit an attractive behavior. There are several layers of bromobenzene molecules on the silica plate, although there exist tens of layers on the gold plate, because the compressive forces that effectively work for each molecule in the case of repulsive force become weaker. The Casimir force between the solids is in good agreement with the calculated one in the context of a continuum model consisting of solids separated by a liquid.
