Power electronic converters based on piezoelectric transformers (PTs) have been widely adopted in recent years owning to their many inherent advantages, such as safety, low profile, and high power density. However, few studies have been conducted about noise emitted by PT converters. In this work, we studied the conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) characteristics in a 10 W PT-based DC–DC converter. The different sources and specific couplings of EMI in this PT are presented. The experimental setup that allows us to study the various propagation paths and to measure the relevant impedances will be shown. A model that focuses on the parasitic impedances of the PT connected to the rectifier will be proposed. This model can show the paths of common noises in detail. We can observe that the EMI behaviours of PT-based converters are related to the isolated characteristics of the PT and the voltage waveforms of the connected circuits. Two connection methods between the PT and its driving circuit are discussed by both simulation and experiment to validify our model.
