A compact spectrometer designed to recognize different light sources for portable imaging devices is presented. The spectrometer consists of only an input fiber, a detector, and a plastic component with a grating structure, which can be fabricated at a very low cost by injection molding. We have simulated the performance of the spectrometer using three commonly used light sources and discussed the results.
