Curie Temperature and $[\text{Li}]/([\text{Li}] + [\text{Nb}])$ Ratio of Near-Stoichiometric LiNbO3 Crystal Grown from Different Li-Rich Solutions

To estimate the $[\text{Li}]/([\text{Li}] + [\text{Nb}])$ ratios of near-stoichiometric-composition LiNbO3 (SLN) crystals, the correlation between Curie temperature and $[\text{Li}]/([\text{Li}] + [\text{Nb}])$ ratio of near-stoichiometric compositions was investigated using ceramics of known composition. From this correlation, the $[\text{Li}]/([\text{Li}] + [\text{Nb}])$ ratio in SLN crystals grown from different Li-rich solutions was then estimated by measuring the Curie temperature. The $[\text{Li}]/([\text{Li}] + [\text{Nb}])$ ratios of SLN crystals grown from Li-55, -56, and -58 mol % solutions were found to be 0.495, 0.496, and 0.498, respectively. This correlation between Curie temperature and $[\text{Li}]/([\text{Li}] + [\text{Nb}])$ ratio of near-stoichiometric compositions should be useful for determining the $[\text{Li}]/([\text{Li}] + [\text{Nb}])$ ratio of SLN crystals grown from different Li-rich solutions. The domain-inversion field of these crystals was measured at room temperature and was found to decrease linearly with increasing $[\text{Li}]/([\text{Li}] + [\text{Nb}])$ ratio in the crystal.
