Synthesis and Electroluminescent Properties of Novel Polystyrene Derivatives with Oligofluorene Pendants

Two kinds of novel polystyrene derivatives with oligofluorene pendants were synthesized, and their photoluminescent (PL) and electroluminescent (EL) properties were investigated. $ p$-(2-Ethynyl-9,9-dibutylfluorene)-polystyrene (PFS-1) showed violet-blue emission with emission peaks centered at 369 nm in solution and 420 nm in the film state. The emission peaks of $p$-(2-(2$'$-ethynyl-9$'$,9$'$-dibutylfluorene)-7-ethynyl-9,9-dibutylfluorene)-polystyrene (PFS-2) are located at 415 nm in solution and 450 nm in the film state. EL devices with these two kinds of materials as emission centers were fabricated. The EL device based on PFS-1 emitted violet-blue light and that based on PFS-2 emitted intense blue-green light. PFS-2 showed a much larger bathochromic shift in its EL spectra than its PL spectra.
