Correlation of Cathodoluminescence of ABO3:Pr3+ Phosphor with Its Crystal Structure

We have studied the cathodoluminescence (CL) behaviors of ABO3:Pr3+ phosphors. It is found that the ABO3:Pr3+ phosphors can emit a very wide range of spectrum of colors except bright green. Also, the color of the emitted spectrum of the ABO3:Pr3+ phosphors is dependent on the crystal phase of its host lattice. When the crystal lattice parameters of the host lattice are the same, i.e., $a=b=c$, the blue–green transition $^{3}P_{0}\rightarrow{^{3}H}_{4}$ appears to be preferred. While the crystal angles of the host lattice are the same, i.e., $\alpha=\beta=\gamma$, the red transition $^{1}D_{2}\rightarrow{^{3}H}_{4}$ seems to be preferred. For other crystal phases except the aforementioned two extreme cases, the phosphors show whitish emissions.
