We measured the precise energy distributions of Schottky emitters, Zr/O/W, Sc/O/W, and Ba/O/W at low operation currents. The obtained distributions were narrower than those of conventional thermionic emission (TE) models, especially in energy regions higher than the peaks of the distributions. To explain the measurement results, a new model that uses effective mass approximation is introduced. Total reflection of the electrons at the interface, where the effective mass region borders on a vacuum, is considered. The calculated results agreed well with the measurements.
