The radiation and particle beam transmissivity in multicomponent mixed (n components) materials of nonzero grain size is studied by a statistical method. The dependence of the beam transmissivity on the grain size is also reported. The beam transmissivity at a distance L from the source is represented as { p1 exp (-d/λ1) + p2 exp (-d/λ2) + …+ pn exp (-d/λn) }L/d in one dimension, where pi is the volumetric ratio of material i (1≤i≤n) in mixed materials, λi the mean free path of beam particles in material i (1≤i≤n), and d the grain size. The expression of the beam transmissivity is obtained by a similar statistical method for the case in which volumetric ratios, mean free paths and the grain size are functions of the distance from the source.
