Preparation of Polypyrrole Film from Vapor Phase and Its Electrical Properties

Polypyrrole film was prepared using iodine vapor. Spectroscopic measurements revealed that the polypyrrole film mainly consisted of a chain structure of pyrrole units, but that it contained some saturated pyrrolidine units, partially saturated units and hydroxyl groups. The maximum room temperature conductivity of the film was $10^{-1}$ S cm-1. The conductivity of the film in the temperature range from $-150$°C to 30°C obeyed the relation of $\ln\sigma\infty\text{T}^{-0.25}$. The thermopower of the film was positive. These electrical properties are similar to those of electrochemically prepared polypyrrole.
