We have studied the previously demonstrated wavelength conversion of 168-Gb/s random data pulses with semiconductor-optical-amplifier (SOA)-based delayed-interference signal-wavelength converters (DISC). Consequently, we predict an additional requirement for the converters — the nonlinear phase shifts in the two-split interference components must be unbalanced.
