Thermoelectric Properties of Ca3Co2O6 Single Crystal

Single crystals of Ca3Co2O6 were synthesized in a molten K2CO3 flux. Electric resistivity ($\rho$) and Seebeck coefficient ($S$) of the crystals were measured along the $c$ axis direction of the Ca3Co2O6 single crystal from room temperature to over 1000 K in air. The Ca3Co2O6 crystals showed p-type semiconducting behavior with $\rho$ values of 2.0 $\Omega$$\cdot$cm at room temperature and 0.013 $\Omega$$\cdot$cm at 1000 K. The $S$ values were $+165$ μV$\cdot$K-1 at 300 K, $+300$ μV$\cdot$K-1 at 440 K, and $+169$ μV$\cdot$K-1 at 1000 K. The power factor ($S^2\rho^{-1}$) increased with temperature and attained $2.33\times 10^{-4}$ W$\cdot$m-1$\cdot$K-2 at 1000 K.
