Ground powders of Nd2Fe14B sintered magnets (particle size = 46–125 μm in diameter) were coated and alloyed by sorbing Yb metal vapor at 550–850°C. A significant recovery of remanence ($B_{\text{r}}$), coercivity ($H_{\text{cj}}$) and maximum energy product ($(BH)_{\text{max}}$) values was observed in the resulting Yb/Nd2Fe14B powders. The recovered values of 0.98 T, 712 kA/m and 173 kJ/m3 for $B_{\text{r}}$, $H_{\text{cj}}$ and $(BH)_{\text{max}}$, respectively, were obtained by optimizing the sorption and annealing conditions (800°C for 90 min and 610°C for 60 min, respectively). The effects of temperature and sorption time on the magnetic properties of the recovered powders are discussed based on their microstructural characteristics.
