農機メーカーの山本製作所は，資材価格の高騰と厳しい市場環境を乗り切ろうと，4年前に着手したカイゼン活動を本格化させることにした。手助けを求めたのは，工場の「ムダとり」で知られるPEC産業教育センターの山田日登志。嵐のように工場を駆け巡り，端から指示を出す山田を傍らで見つめる男がいた。その男がようやく，口を開く。2007年10月下旬。
