We prepared copper catalysts supported on silica hollow spheres, which were used as new catalyst supports, and applied them to NO reduction by CO. Silica hollow spheres prepared by interfacial gelling reaction method, and various copper solutions such as copper acetate, copper nitrate and copper chloride solution were used in preparation of copper catalysts supported on the silica hollow spheres by vacuum evaporation impregnation (VEI) method or adsorption method. Those catalysts were characterized by capillary electrophoresis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron micrograph (SEM).<BR>XRD patterns demonstrated that copper acetate solution enabled us to prepare more dispersive copper species on silica hollow sphere than other copper solutions. As the results of the conversion for NO reduction, the copper species on silica hollow sphere had higher activity for NO reduction from relatively low temperature than the copper species on the other silicas. The catalyst with 1-7 wt% copper loading on silica hollow sphere prepared by VEI method had especially high activity for NO reduction.
