For the control of the hardness of oil-wax gel which is the base material of lipsticks, properties of the gels containing branched paraffin wax and normal paraffin wax are examined.
When 5-20 wt% of the normal paraffin wax (nC32) is replaced with the branched paraffin wax (tBu-PE), the obtained gel becomes dramatically harder. At this mixture ratio, nC32 and tBu-PE forms monocrystal phase in the gel. The morphology of the obtained crystals is distorted-plate shape, contrasting to those of nC32 and tBu-PE both of which are flat-plate shape.
The results of the load test show that the gel containing tBu-PE and nC32 is tough and hard to break compared with nC 32 gel.
