Utilizing solubilized water in the interior of sodium 1, 2-bis (2-ethylhexyloxycarbonyl) ethane sulfonate reversed micelles, polyacrylamide particles were prepared by the polymerization of acrylamide initiated with potassium peroxodisulfate at 45°C. The size and its distribution of the particles obtained were found to be well correlated with the solubilized states of water and micelles : monodisperse and spherical particles were formed in both swollen micelle and W/O microemulsion regions, whereas in blue translucent region bimodal particles were obtained. In addition, the polymerization-time dependence of diameter of particles, molecular weight of polymer, and conversion of acrylamide revealed that there were two types of the growth mechanism of polyacrylamide particles in W/O microemulsion regions.
