TiO2 thin films were prepared by deposition of TiO2 ultrafine particles made by a reversed micelle technique on quartz or ITO substrate, and the effects of film thickness.and deposited particle size on the optical properties of the films were investigated. UV-vis spectra and atomic force microscopic (AFM) observation confirmed the formation of TiO2 microcrystalline films with high optical transparency. Removal of the surfactant (Aerosil OT) molecules from the film by methanol treatment was effective to prevent the aggregation of the particles during the calcination. Photoelectrochemical measurements of these films showed that photocurrent was observed only when the film thickness was above a certain threshold value. This threshold value of the film thickness was found to depend on the deposited particle size.
