Anodic oxidation of aluminum and electrolytic coloring were performed in Cu (II) containing solution by hybrid bath process (HBP). The color and composition of obtained films were investigated in comparison with those obtained by the conventional process. The color of the films produced by both processes was reddish brown. L* value, which indicates the degree of lightness, was the following order for the three processes, conventional bath with low concentration of sulfuric acid<conventional bath with high concentration of sulfuric acid<HBP. XRD and EPMA results revealed that metallic copper was deposited on the bottom of the pores of the films. The films were decolorized with an increase of time regardless of the coloring process. The decoloration depended on the water content of surroundings around the films and the content of sulfate anion in the films. The reason for the decoloration seemed that metallic copper was converted to the compound like verdigris.
