We analyzed Nb containing anatase-form TiO2 on its individual particle properties and its pigment characteristics, and tried to correlate them. Individual TiO2 particles we used had high crystallinity except for a few layers on the surface. Nb, which was impurity originated from the ore, was found to be segregated on the amorphous surface layers when its concentration was 0. 15 wt% or more. Aluminum doping into the particles before the calcination stabilized Nb inside the crystal and prevented the segregation on the surface. Al doped TiO2 pigment was fond to improve the thermal and light stabilities of its coated films.
