Intercalation of organic phosphates and chiral amines into layered γ -zirconium phosphate, Zr (HPO4) 2·2 H2O (abbreviated ZrP), was examined by XRD, elemental analysis, and TG.<BR>A linear relationship was recognized between carbon numbers of alkyl group and the basal spacing of intercalation compounds. The slope of the straight line was determined to be 1. 56, from which a tilting angle was calculated to be 38°, indicating the formation of bilayers of organic phosphate in the ZrP layer.<BR>Basal spacing and content of amine and organic phosphate of the intercalation compound were held constant over 250mmol/the organic phosphate was 250mmol/L or more. These results suggested that both the organic phosphate and chiral amine were intercalated into ZrP a at constant ratio and also that regular chiral intercalation compound was formed.
