Fine titanium dioxide was modified with dodecyl groups, and the products were characterized in various respects. 1, 3, 5, 7-Tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane (TMCTS) was deposited on fine titanium dioxide at 80°C by chemical vapor deposition, which was polymerized catalytically to form poly (methylsiloxane) (PMS) layer on the surface. Fine titanium dioxide coated with TMCTS was prepared in five varieties with different amounts of TMCTS (PMS m, m : 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40). Fine titanium dioxide modified with dodecyl groups (Dm, m : 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40) was synthesized from PMS-TiO<SUB>2</SUB> by hydrosilylation with 1-dodecene. The contact angle showed a tendency to increase with increasing added TMCTS or dodecene. Furthermore, in the case of the powder-oil disperse system, the Bingham yield value increased with increasing added dodecene on the dispersed particles and the coagulation force between particles.
