Porous alumina capsule has been prepared by utilizing an interfacial gelling reaction of nonaqueous gelling agent (LGBA ; N-lauroyl-L-glutamic acid-a, γ-di-n-butylamide) and hydrolysis reaction of aluminum isopropoxide (AIP). When acidic or neutral water containing formamide was added dropwise to the solution composed of LGBA, AIP, fluorobenzene (oil), and ethanol, hollow gel with alumina particles trapped in its structure was formed at the oil/ water interface. A heat treatment of this composite gel resulted in the formation of the porous alumina capsule with cavity. Furthermore, the effect of hydrolysis rate of alkoxide on the capsule formation was discussed.
