Polypyrrole coating on silica particles was performed by use of surfactant adsorbed layer. The adsolubilized amounts of pyrrole increased with increasing chain-number of cationic surfactant from dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride to didodecyldimethylammonium bromide and tridodecylmethylammonium chloride, although the adsorbed amount of pyrrole on silica without surfactant was quite large. TEM observation after polymerization of the adsolubilized pyrrole on silica particles shows that polypyrrole particles are uniformly covered on silica particles using double- or triple-chained surfactant as well as that without surfactant.
