TiO2 hydrate coating on mica in an aqueous solution of TiOSO4 by a homogeneous precipitation using urea was studied with emphasis on coating conditions for a uniform coating. For the uniform coating of TiO2 film on mica surface, it was found that the deposition of a large number of TiO2 particles on the surface at the initial stage and subsequent slow growth of them were necessary. A uniform dense film was formed under the coating conditions as follows : [(NH2) 2CO], 0.1mol·dm-3 ; [H2SO4], 0.29mol · dm-3 ; [TiOSO4], 0.01mo1 · dm-3 ; and twostep depositions for 60 min at 80°C and 30 min at 70°C. The morphology of TiO2 film formed on mica was little affected by firing at 800°C. When TiO2 particles were formed in the solution phase, they tented to adhere to mica, which made the surface ununiform.
