The effects of alkali metal carbonates on acidic sites of pigments for the dehydration of alcohol were studied by means of a pulse reactor method. Dehydration of alcohol decreased by the addition of alkali metal carbonate. It was correlated with the electron negativities or the ionic radius of the alkali metals.<BR>Dehydration of isopropyl alcohol over kaolinite was first order reaction and can be analyzed by Bassett equation. As a result, strength of acidic sites seems to be Boltzmann distribution and alkali metal inactivated the acidic sites in order of their strength.
