The curing of epoxy resins with various carboxylic acyl hydrazides was studied by means of DTA, and the structure of the cured resins was also studied with dynamic mechanical properties.<BR>Hydrazides having the melting point above 150°C were found to be effective as curing agents for epoxy resins, and epoxy resins cured on heating at about 150°C. The lower the melting point of hydrazides having melting point below 150°C, the shorter the pot life and the lower the curing temperature for the hydrazide-epoxy resin systems.<BR>The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the hydrazide cured resins increased with the increase of the crosslinking density. Tg of the cured resins with about the same crosslinking density increased, like as diamine systems, as in the following order, aliphatic dihydrazide<hydrazide with phenyl group in side chain<aromatic hydrazide, but these Tg were higher than that of the diamine cured resin of the same structure.<BR>Many of these cured epoxy resins showed good bending strength and bonding strength such as 900-200 kg/cm2 and 200 kg/cm2, respectively.
