Reactivity and dyeing property of C. I. Reactive Red 9 for Nylon 12 were examined. Equilibrium uptake of the dye was greatly affected by pH of dye bath and rapidly increased when pH value was under 4. Equilibrium uptake of the dye per an amino-end group was about a hundredth of Nylon 6 or Nylon 6, 6 which are acid dyes. This means that Nylon 12 is hard to dye polyamide. Reacted, dye can be separated from absorbed but not reacted dye by extracting the dyed film with n-buthylamine. The reaction of the reactive dyes with chlorotriazine group are ordinarily carried out in the basic bath. but this dye reacts in the acid dye bath of pH 4 at 115°C. The reaction was that of first order and the apparent rate constant of this reaction was 2. 22 × 10<SUP>-5</SUP>/sec.
