The spherical particle3 of CoCO3 were prepared by interfacial reaction method, in which the cobalt carbonate was formed by the reaction of CoSO4 aqueous solution emulsified in benzene with NaHCO3 aqueous solution. Properties of the CoCO3 spherical particles were determined by measuring specific surface areas, X-ray diffraction patterns, particle size distributions, adsorption isotherms of water vapor, microphotographs, and DTA-TG curves. Some properties of the CoCO3 spherical particles are shown in Table 1. <BR>It was found that the CoCO3 spherical particles were composed of the micro crystal of CoCO3 (Spherocobaltite) and possessed highly porous structure, and also found that CoO spherical particles and Co3O4 spherical particles were formed by thermal decomposition of the CoCO3 spherical particles. <BR>Above measurements were also carried out for the Co3O4 spherical particles prepared by thermal decomposition of the CoCO3 spherical particles at 500°C and properties of the Co3O4 spherical particles were determined. The results showed that the Co3O4 spherical particles were also composed of the micro crystal of Co3O4 and possessed highly porous structure. <BR>High-temperature reduction of the Co3O4 spherical particles was also examined and it was found that spherical particles of cobalt metal were formed.
