One of measuring method DSA (Dynamic Spring Analysis), in which a small spiral spring is used to support the sample, was developed in order to follow crosslinking reactions in thermosetting polymeric resins, especially to follow that in liquid state samples.
By DSA, all processes of crosslinking reactions can be followed with high sensitivity regardless of the state, whichever in liquid or solid state.
The crosslinking reactions in oil-modified phenolic resin were investigated by DSA and the followings were shown.
1. The crosslinking reactions in oil-modified phenolic resin showed different mechanisms in each temperature region below and above 200°C.
2. Mn-octate seemed to act as a plasticizer not as an accelerator to the crosslinking reactions in chinese tung oil but as an effective accelerator for the crosslinking reactions between chinese tung oil and p-tert-butyl phenol resin.
