Clarifying of the influence of sanding media to the abrasion properties (abrasion resistance), this study was carried out to contribute for the selection of adequate sanding media and the rationalization of the sanding process. Influence of sanding media and viscosity upon the abrasion loss and the surface roughness of the film for the various coatings was experimentized. The determination of abrasion loss was carried out with the Sutherland rub tester and the surface tracer was used for measuring the surface roughness. The results are as follows, (1) Both the abrasion loss and the surface roughness become large as the swelling properties of sanding media for the film are strong. (2) Both the abrasion loss and the surface roughness become large in accordance with the increase of the viscosity of the media. (3) The sanding mechanism for the film in the presence of media was considered from these results.
