An atomic absorption spectrometer was examined as an analytical tool f or the quick determination of zinc ion in electrodeposited film which was dissolved in a proper solvent. The use of alcohol in place of the commonly used water as a solvent resulted in an increase in the signal. The effects of the presence of amines were remarkable when such highly polar solvents as water and methanol were used, but the effects could be minimized by the use of less polar solvents such as ethanol and isopropanol. No effects of the presence of carboxylic acids were observed, whereas the presence of a resin decreased the signal. The latter, however, was caused by the decrease in the feeding rate due to the increase in viscosity of the sample solution.<BR>It is conclued that the amounts of zinc present in electrodeposited film can be determined quickly and accurately by feeding the alcohol solution of the film to an atomic absorption spectrometer.
