The authors carried out studies in order to prepare chemical resistive paint having parallel capability extremly effective in the corrosion inhibition.<BR>As a result a chromium compound of epoxy resin (Epikote # 1001) was found as quite excellent in chemical resistivity and in the corrosion inhibition capability, and which characteristics were as follows : <BR>1) The baking temperature can be chosen between optional allowance, from 160 to deg. C, being for 20 minutes at 60 deg. C and 5 minutes at 600 deg. C.<BR>2) Properties of the coated film of 20-30 micron thickness, on steel sheet of 0.8 mm coated with zinc phosphate, were as follows : <BR>Scratch test; not defective at 1 kg load and 10 mm diam.<BR>Impact strength; not faulty at 1 kg load, 1/4in., and 50 cm height.<BR>Erichsen test; 8-9 mm.<BR>Flexure strength; not faulty at 2 mm diam. and 180 degree bending.<BR>Continued boiling water test, under oxygen saturation; not faulty for 840 hours.<BR>Brine water spray test; not faulty for 4,800 hours.<BR>Natural weathering test; not faulty at present, during 4 years from commencement.<BR>Weather-O-meter test; reduced by half for the luster. But not defective for all other properties after 3,000 hours exposure.<BR>Solvent resistivity not faulty for the following solvents under boiling for 5,000 hours : Toluene, Xylene, Benzene, Mineral terpene, Gasoline, Lublicating oil. Soy bean oil, Tung oil, Sesame oil, Acetone, Methyl ethyl ketone, Methyl isobutyl ketone, Methanol, Ethanol, Isopropyl alcohol, n-Butanol, Ethyl acetate, Butyl acetate, Butyl cellosolve, Ethyl cellosolve.<BR>Acid and alkali resistivities; not faulty for 5,000 hours immersion, at 10-25 deg. C, against 5percent, 30 percent sulfuric acid and against 5 percent, 30 percent caustic soda. But damaged by 5 percent or concentrated aqueous ammonia, concentrated hydrochloric acid. and by concentrated nitric acid after 20-60 hours immersion.<BR>Other tests; not faulty by 5,000 hours immersion for 10 percent sodium chloride solution, 3 percent soap, and detergent solution.<BR>Cohesion with top coating ; Melamine-alkyd resin, epoxy resin, acrylic resin, oil paint, phthalicpaint, urethane paint, polyester paint, etc. have enough cohesion power. But cellulosic. paints such as nitro cotton paint etc. lacK the power.
