1. At the 10 mm stage o f Perarneles nasuta and the 15.5 mm stage of Trichosurus vulpecula the four longitudinal diencephalic zones are still undifferentiated, and show the primitive vertebrate pattern.
2. The various nuclei of the posterior commissure, as well as the nucleus praetectalis, the nucleus posterior and the nucleus area praetectalis develop within the caudal portion of the dorsal thalamic diencephalic zone.
3. The only nucleus of the mesencephalic tectal group of pretectal nuclei, which could be demarcated in the 44 mm stage of Trichosurus vulpecula was the nucleus lentiformis, which is clearly of tectal origin.
4. T here were noted a nucleus interstitialis of the medial longitudinal bundle, a nucieus of Darkschewitsch, a nucleus interstitialis tegmentalis commissurae posterioris and a nucleus medialis anterior; which were all derived from the tegmental cell c ord and are essentially of mesencephalic origin. They belong to the mesencephalic tegmental group of pretectal nuclei.
5. The medial geniculate nucleus in Trichosurus vulpecula consists of a pars dorsalis which is derived from the dorsal thalamus, and a pars ventralis which takes origin in the ventral thalamus.
