Effects of a predator, <I>Orius strigicollis</I> (Poppius) on the population of the western flower thrips, <I>Frankliniella occidentalis</I> (Pergande) was investigated on greenhouse eggplant (cultivar: Mizunasu) in 1999. In the released plot, 2.2 of <I>O. strigicollis</I> adults per plant were released twice in April. <I>F. occidentalis</I> population density on leaf and flower was kept lower in the released plot than in the control plot. The proportion of damaged fruits caused by the thrips was significantly lower in the released plot than in the control plot.
