Habitat diversity is closely related to high biodiversity for most stream animals requiring a set of different habitats with stages of their life cycle (Takemon, 1997). For example, different geomorphic habitat may act as feeding (runs), resting (backwater), and spawning (gravel bars) sites for fish (Brierley and Fryirs, 2005). Because these habitats are inter-related and cannot exist independently, the habitat arrangement should be interrelated with the meso-scale riverbed geomorphology when we consider the management of habitat structure (Takemon, 2011). Relation of aquatic habitat diversity to meso-scale riverbed geomorphology (MSRG) is also necessary to be investigated based on scientific and statistical analysis. In this paper, we described historical changes of abundance and diversity of the aquatic habitats and classified the MSRG based on riverbed geomorphological characteristics. And then, we examined relations of aquatic habitat diversity to MSRG.
