Over-exploitation of groundwater has caused serious groundwater level decline in the Red River Delta, Vietnam, but the trends still remains poorly understood. This paper explored the trend of groundwater levels by utilizing non-parametric Mann-Kendall (MK) test for the dense network of 120 observation points over the Delta. The results reveal the strong downward trend of groundwater level over Pleistocene confined aquifer (PCA). However, trends of Holocene unconfined aquifer (HUA) are quite different. HUA has strong upward trends in the north and coast but shows strong downward trends in the center. These findings are fundamentals for sustainable development of groundwater resources in the delta.
