The inorganic/organic hybrids were prepared from chemically modified metal alkoxides and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilan (GPTMS). Their formation and thermal decomposition behavior was investigated by FT-Raman, NMR and TG-DTA experiments. The chemically modified metal alkoxides of Al(O-sec-C4H9)3, Zr(O-n-C4H9)4 and Ti(O-iso-C3H7)4 promoted the reactions of alkoxy groups and epoxy groups of GPTMS. The organic groups of the inorganic/organic hybrids prepared from metal alkoxides and GPTMS thermally decomposed at slightly higher temperatures than that prepared from only GPTMS.
