The effect of NiNb2O6 columbite ceramics and CuO-V2O5 sintering agent on the microwave dielectric properties of BiNbO4 ceramics was investigated as a function of sintering temperature and composition. The CuO-V2O5 additive effectively lowered the sintering temperature of BiNbO4-NiNb2O6 ceramics to 900°C. From the XRD analysis, orthorhombic BiNbO4 and columbite NiNb2O6 phases were detected and made solid solutions in minor region. The dielectric properties are affected by the solid solutions of NiNb2O6. In the range of the solid solutions of NiNb2O6 from x=0 to 0.1, the dielectric properties are changed systematically. Especially, the quality factor QF increased drastically from 5000 to 24251 GHz. In the two phases region up to x=0.1, the QF decreased. The dielectric constant of 40, QF of 24251 GHz and TCF -5.3 ppm/°C were obtained for the 0.9BiNbO4-0.1NiNb2O6 ceramics with 0.8 wt%CuV2O6 sintered at 900°C for 3 h.
