Active CaO powders were prepared by thermal-decomposition of Ca(OH)2 powders, and their removal reactivities for HCl gas in exhaust fumes from municipal incinerators were examined by column methods at 200°C. The remarkable difference of removal reactivities between active CaO powders and Ca(OH)2 powders, which were prepared by slaking CaO powders, was observed, although these powders had similar specific surface areas. The active CaO powders were found to have superior removal characteristics for HCl gas.
