We propose an automatic camera pan control method for broadcasting ball games by tracking the direction of the audience's faces.It has more robustness to occulusions and less calculation than the previous approaches.Our approach consists of two sensors (a face sensor and a court sensor) and integrating components. The face sensor estimates a regarded point from the audience by tracking the face direction for fast-moving scenes.On the other hand, the court sensor estimates the center of a play by detecting moving objects for slow-moving scenes.Integrating these image informations by a video generate component, we get the video for broadcasting by the digital camerawork.We conducted a subjective evaluation experiment and the result shows that our approach is better than the other previous ones in respect of stable tracking and easy watching.We conclude that our method is as effective as the ideal camerawork.
