Effects of amounts of feeding formula feed for the rearing of longtooth grouper Epinephelus bruneus were examined in 500 l tanks. Fish were reared under two feeding conditions during 73 days after hatching (DAH) to 129 DAH: some were fed a 3% body weight ration (control group); others were fed a satiation amount (experimental group). Total lengths and body weights at 129 DAH were 82.3±4.2 mm and 9.9±1.4 g in the control group, but 101.1±6.6 mm and 17.0±3.3 g in the experimental group. The weight were significantly different between groups (P<0.05). Similarly, the respective daily growth rates were 2.9±0.1% and 3.1±0.1%. Survival rates were 94.7±3.1% and 98.7±0.6%. The feed conversion rates were 149.0±7.1% and 131.7±0.8%. Those rates were significantly different between groups (P<0.05): growth and survival rates were significantly higher in the experimental group, but the feed conversion rate was significantly higher in the control group. Growth and survival rates were improved by feeding to satiation when fish were of 40-100 mm total length.
