Influences of galvanizing process on mechanical properties of austempered ductile cast iron were investigated. Tensile strength and hardness did not change much but proof stress decreased slightly after galvanizing. The higher the galvenizing temperature and longer the dipping time, the more remarkably elongation and impact value decreased. These phenomena corresponded with a decrease of retained austenite. It was considered that the retained austenite decomposed to ferrite and carbide during the galvanizing process. Considering mechanical properties and the characteristics of the galvanized layer, the suitable temperature and dipping time of galvanizing austempered ductile cast iron were determined as 470 degree C and 60 to 90 seconds, respectively.
