In our previous report, the qualities of pig iron could be estimated by the spheroidizing degree of graphite in magnesium treatment. On the above view point, we investigated the speroidizing propert of graphite in the foundry pig iron produced at Kamaishi Iron Works from the end of 1957 to 1961, and found the effects of a small amount of various elements on the spheroidizing of graphite. The results obtained were as follows : 1) When S. As, (Sb) or the total of various element harmful to the spheroidizing of graphite exceeded a certain limit, the spheroidizing degree lessened. 2) The harmfu effect of S, As, or Sb on the spheroidizing was remarkable when coexisted with Ti. 3) Mechanical properties of nodular iron treated with Mg were affected by Mn, and P in it.
