Vegetation overgrowth along river networks has been a serious engineering problem for both flood protection and ecological conservation. This paper investigates sensitivity of the vegetation dynamics in several river channels in Kako river basin. The sensitivity analysis employs the stochastic process model which has been developed for statistically evaluating vegetation status on a floodplain. The expectation and standard deviation of vegetation areal ratio are compared in the different channel cross sections for different river discharges and relative floodplain heights. The result shows that the vegetation status changes sensitively in the channels with larger discharge and insensitive in the lower floodplain heights. It is confirmed from the present investigation that the sensitivity analysis could be one of the powerful diagnostic methods for evaluating vegetation overgrowth tendency along river channel networks
