Basic geometric and dynamic characteristics as well as macroscopic damage condition such as the lodging, uprooting and breaking of coastal black pine tree in the inundation area of the 2011 Off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake Tsunami are examined through field tests. The damage condition is discussed in terms of the horizontal force F and moment M acting on each tree, and compared with those of Casuarinas (Sea Casuarina and Shrimp Casuarina) which are typical trees for the tsunami energy reduction in Indonesia. Moreover, the tsunami energy reduction performance of the three species is roughly graded through examination of inundation depth for which the three can withstand and comparison of their basic characteristics and damage condition.
